This growing field of exploiting the quantum mechanical properties of smaller and smaller devices is commonly referred to as NanoTechnology. NanoTechnology is used to describe many types of research where the characteristic dimensions are less than 1 micron (10-6), and into the nano dimensions (10-9).  At this level we are working directly with atoms and learning about the fundamental building blocks of nature.  Using a techniques of self assembly indivial molecules can be aligned naturelly to form useful electrical devices, that can be used to produce flexible circuits.

NanoTechnology

By the late 1970's, technology for transistors (Field Effect Devices) and integrated circuits (LSI and VLSI) had evolved far enough to enable the computer era to begin. These devices rely heavily on the quantum mechanical physics of crystalline materials to operate. Today modern transistor designers implore advanced quantum mechanical priniciples to continually improve performance while minimizing parasitic losses.
Misty Windmill Consulting under the direction of Dr. Martin has been involved with the verification and basic ideas of designing and producing advanced devices over the past 30 years. Switching from Si, GaAs, and InP to Carbon as a basic materials is commonly refered to as Moletronics. Newer materials like GaN, SiCarbide and Diamond are also used in High Power Applications today.

Measurements

Precise measurements are the cornerstone for characterizing devices and developing models that can be used in Computer Aided Design (CAD) Tools. Accurate device models are required to verify circuits and minimize the circuit design cycles. New device technology is constantly being developed which pushs the need for advanced measurement techniques.
